We won?! Meeting with President Siddiqi

This afternoon, Linda and I met with President Siddiqi to discuss the possible pool closure. Here’s the e-mail Linda sent everyone after our meeting concluded…

Incredible news, everyone!  We won! Alyssa and I met with Dr. Siddiqi, president of COD, this afternoon. He assured both of us that the decision has been made NOT to close the pool! He said “During my tenure as president, the pool will not close.” He also said he plans to work at COD for “a very long time.”

Alyssa and I still plan to attend the board meeting on Thursday, and still plan to speak. I will be taking a different tone than originally planned, but I personally still feel it is worth my time to make sure the board fully understands the massive outpouring of community support in favor of keeping this pool open both now and far into the future. We still strongly encourage you to attend the board meeting on Thursday, if possible. It’s still important to let the board know why the pool is so important to us. Having a lot of people attend, and some of you also speak, shows the board the strength of our commitment to the pool.

Huge thanks to each of you for signing the petition, for writing emails, and for your vocal support of the pool. Each person has made a difference! We should all feel proud of this victory. Just to let everyone know, we had 1244 signatures on the save the pool petition going into today’s meeting with the president. Pretty amazing, right? That says a lot about how much this pool matters to all of us!

If more news breaks before the board meeting, I will send another email. Otherwise, I still hope to see a lot of you there! It can’t hurt, and it might really help to see such strong community support now just in case this issue ever arises in the future.
